HISTORY: After the Japanese attack on their Schofield Barracks Dec 7, 1941 the
25th
moved to Guadalcanal Nov 1942 to reinforce Marines near Henderson Field there. In July advance elements debarked in New Georgia with the
35th Inf Rgt
captured Vella Lavella there Aug 43. The division moved to New Zealand in 44 and then to New Caledonia. After landing in Luzon for the Liberation of the Philippines in Jan 45 the
25th
moved to Tarlac for invasion training but after the surrender moved to Japan for Occupation duties Sept 45.
The Overall
Sixth Army
of which the 25th was part of, saw extensive service in the South Pacific during World War II, including in New Britain, New Guinea, the Philippines and occupation of Japan.
