Description
These are ORIGINAL and RARE private-purchase russet brown leather paratrooper "jump" boots and also sometimes attributed to tanker crewmen. These boots were acquired by me back on February 9, 1994 from Phoenix militaria dealer Ken Clawson and until now have been in my personal collection. These type of boots were likely not used for actual paratrooper jumping, but more often for the "walking out" dress uniform, although these boots were heavily used in some capacity.
The boots, which are a large size 10 D (See image of size stamping inside top of boot), were well cared for and are in VERY GOOD used original condition, with two straps on each boot,
beveled heels and sewn reinforcement over the arch of the boot, as was standard for jump boots
. As might be expected, the Biltrite heels and soles are heavily worn from use and the "white wear dots" to indicate that replacement of the soles was due are practically obliterated. The boots were manufactured by the Joseph Herman Company of Millis, Massachusetts and a woven label appears at the top of the right tongue (the label in the left tongue is missing) and the name is again stamped inside the top of the boot. The Herman Company was one of the manufacturers of the standard issue jump boots and several examples are shown in the great airborne reference book
Heroes In Our Midst
, Volume 2, pages 442-443. Unlike the standard jump boot, these boots are only 9.25" in height, rather than 10", and were not made on the "Munson last" with a cap toe, as were standard jump boots.
Here's a chance for the advanced airborne collector or re-enactor to acquire a pair of original and rare jump or tanker boots in a "human size". Although I'm confident that the buyer will be pleased with the boots, you will nonetheless have my usual unconditional guarantee of authenticity and a five-day (
not the 14-days that they insert in my listings without my consent
)
righ
t of inspection and return/refund privilege, excluding postage.
