    Description

CEREMONIAL SANDPAINTING LITHOGRAPHS (GROUP OF 10) AUCTION PROVENANCE INFORMATION STATES NAVAJO.  INFORMATION ALSO READS POSSIBLY THE GROUP IS FROM A PORTFOLIO WHICH ACCOMPANIED F.J. NEWCOMB PORTFOLIO.  APPEARS POSSIBLY TO BE...OAKES, MAUDE & CAMPBELL, JOSEPH: POCHOIR PRINTS.  DOCUMENTATION READS C 1937 MAY BE MID 1940'S.  I WOULD APPRECIATE ANY INFORMATION ON THESE FROM MY KNOWLEDGABLE EBAYERS WHO ARE FAMILIAR WITH THESE TO ADD TO THE LISTING.  THIS IS A GROUP OF TEN (10) PURCHASED TOGETHER AT A SKINNER AUCTION IN BOLTON, MA IN 1985.  ACCORDING TO THE PURCHASE INFORMATION THE REPRESENTED LITHOGRAPHS IN THE SERIES WERE NUMBERS 1,3,4,6,7,10,15 AND 17.  THEY MEASURE APPROXIMATELY 16 X 23" AND ARE IN VARIABLE CONDITIONS.  THEY WERE EACH SHRINK WRAPPED YEARS AGO ON TO A 1/4" ART BOARD TO PROTECT THE IMAGES FROM FURTHER DAMAGE.  THEY ALL HAVE TAPE MARKS ON THE CORNERS.  THEY ALL HAVE THE SAME ECRU BACKGROUND WITH IMAGES IN BLUES, YELLOWS, MAROONS, BEIGES.  WHAT I THOUGHT WAS A WATER STAIN ON THE EDGES IS THE TAPE MARKS WHEN THEY WERE REMOVED TO THE BOARDS, POSSIBLY FROM THE PORTFOLIO TO SHRINK WRAP TO PRESERVE THE IMAGES.  SEVERAL HAVE SOME EDGEWEAR ALONG THE CORNERS ON DIFFERENT IMAGES.  I WILL BE HAPPY TO ADD MORE TO EACH IF THERE IS INTEREST.  AS THE ORIGINAL PURCHASE INFORMATION STATES, SOME ARE IN BETTER CONDITION THAN OTHERS.  IN EXAMINING SOME HAVE LIGHT SMUDGE MARKS, PROBABLY FROM HANDLING,  ON THE PAPER.  I THINK THE NUMBERS MAY BE ON THE REVERSE SIDE BECAUSE THEY WERE DOCUMENTED BY THE AUCTION GALLERY ON THE PHYSICAL PURCHASE SHEET PRIOR TO THE SALE.  THEY ARE BEING SOLD AS THEY ARE SHOWN, FLAT, SHRINK WRAPPED ON THE BOARD, AS WE PURCHASED THEM IN ORDER THAT WE NOT COMPROMISE THE IMAGE.  WE ARE NOW SELLING THEM AS A GROUP, AS PURCHASED SINCE THE INFORMATION STATES THAT THEY THINK THEY POSSIBLY WERE IN A PORTFOLIO WHICH ACCOMPANIES THE BOOK.  THE PROVENANCE WAS OFFERED BY SKINNER GALLERY AT AUCTION AND IS STATED ON THE PURCHASE SHEET FOR DISCLOSURE PURPOSES BUT APPEARS POSSIBLY TO BE INACCURATE ARTISTRY AND PROVENANCE.  THESE HAVE BEEN CAREFULLY STORED TO PROTECT THE LITHOGRAPHS AND IN, AS PURCHASED CONDITION.  WHOMEVER SHRINK WRAPPED THESE DID SO WITH THE UTMOST CARE TO PRESERVE THEM.  WE HAVE ALSO TAKEN THE UTMOST CARE NOT TO DAMAGE THEM.  THESE ARE VERY NICE PIECES TO ADD TO OR START YOUR COLLECTION.  I DO NOT HAVE ANY ADDITIONAL INFORMATION ON THESE PIECES.  ALL MEASUREMENTS AND COLORS ARE AS CLOSE AS POSSIBLE.  PLEASE EXAMINE THE PHOTOS FOR ADDITIONAL DETAILS AND CONDITIONS WHICH ARE PART OF THE DISCLOSURE.  THANK YOU FOR LOOKING.
